Butter Lemon Cheese Cake

Terima kasih tuan resipi.

Sebenarnya dah lama nak cuba buat tapi mengenangkan kami tinggal berdua ja, kembung jugak nak habiskan 1 biji kek. Hihi. Dah ada tetamu nak datang ni, boleh la merasa beramai-ramai. Kek ni kalau simpan di suhu bilik bertahan dalam 3 hari je.

BUTTER LEMON CHEESECAKE

Bahan-bahan:

225g tepung gandum
1 1/2 st baking powder
200g pure butter atau lepa susu
180g krim keju
150g gula pasir
5 biji telur gred A atau B
1/2 st parutan kulit lemon
1 st jus lemon

Cara-cara:

Putar sekadar sebati sahaja. Kemudian off mixer, gunakan spatula sodok bahagian bawah adunan dan kaup balik 2-3 kali untuk pastikan tiada ketulan tepung di bawah adunan. Jangan overmix. Sekadar sebati sahaja.

Maldives : activities

Our watersport activities were done mostly in Maafushi Island. We took the package organised by Shadow Palm. These are the review of those activities :

1. Night fishing

The price offered for 4 person was 35 USD. We took off at around 5.00pm Maldivian time. Since we were only person who asked for in night fishing, there were only us on the speed boat. It felt as if it was an exclusive boat ride to fishing that night. Lol. The sunset started around 5.55 and the activity started around 7pm - 9pm. I have to admit that most of us do not possess the skill nor experience in fishing but Mohammad calmly taught and attended to our need. Most my fishing hook either get caught in between of corals or snapped due to (we thought) big fishes but I did not manage to catch any fish that night. However, the Maldivian people were good. They caught a lot and those fishes had become our dinner that night. It was a good experience and I wished to do it again if I went there again.

2. Half day Snorkeling (9am- 2pm)

The price for this activity was 25 usd plus 6 usd for environment tax which was 31 usd in total per person. The snorkelling will cover 5 points of attraction which are:

- nemo point
Nemo point

 - turtle point
turtle reef

 - manta ray point

- dolphin point
so sorry for not be able to include the picture here. Not even our tour guide managed to catch their picture.

However, the manta ray and the dolphin were said to be 50-50 chances in which we were unlucky since we could not experience to see them first hand. The nemo point was beautiful and I managed to caught some in my video. The turtle point was the most challenging point as we had to move around quickly chasing the turtle but it was worth it. The turtle itself seemed so beautiful and majestic.
The package provided pictures that the organizer took during the trip. All you have to remember is to bring during this trip is a flash drive. Don't worry if you do not bring one. There were plenty of local shop in which do sell the flash drive at the price of 200 ruffiyal.

Lunch @ sand bank

3. Adaaran island excursion

follow me to maldives

The price for this activity was 75usd plus 35usd for transportation. The activity gives you an all-day pass to use the facilities available in the private island resort. So basically you can choose any of the private island, not necessarily limited to Adaaran island only. We chose Adaaran for the reason that they has shark and tuna feeding during the evening although Mr. FZ said that they might also be feeding stingray close up but the only stingray sighted was him.. 😎

Snorkeling
Adaaran island is a perfect ground for snorkelling. The coral was very near, less than 2m along the coastal line. I think I saw a manta ray swimming nearby as well. I'll upload the video and see if you can spot it too.

Shark feeding at 5.30pm

They provided outdoor lunch buffet. The food was ok. More detail in food and beverage.

Enjoying sunset at Adaaran

bye Adaaran

4. Kayaking and Jetski ride. (Complimentary from shadow palm)

We were granted with free 1 hour kayaking from hotel. Despite of having only 2 kayak available, we kayak-ed around the beach line and trust me, if we had the strength, we would kayak around the island. The jet ski ride was also complimentary from the hotel (Thanks to Mr. Ali and Mr. Muhammad) for us for choosing the hotel and the watersport package from them. It was fun, even though I lost my sunglasses after the ride 😓. The downside was, Mr and Mrs FZ had to ride in rainstorm (poor them).

Our 1st time experiencing jet ski ride
Kayaking

So total expenses for activities for 4 people was 704usd (2907.52 MYR).

Maldives : the islander's food

Upon researching and study on the cost of living in Maldives, we found out that it may be a bit expensive to dine in there. The average food there is around 15usd per meal per person there. Thus we thought of bringing our own can and dried food there.

A week before departure, we agreed to take extra 25kg luggage add-on upon check in per couple just to make sure that we brought enough food (rice, instant noodle, canned mackerel, sambal paste, beef floss, sambal hitam, ready-to-eat Brahims prepacked meals, hard boiled eggs, soy sauce) together with our snorkeling equipment and not to forget rice cooker. Lol. However, we thought that we may overestimate the need that much of food since during activities, the lunch or the dinner mostly is included. So this is the summary of our meals for each day:

Picture taken by our traveling buddies FZ

Day 2

Breakfast at Off Day Inn restaurant for continental breakfast and juice

Day 2 breakfast
Snack of 8 slices of bread with chicken floss and srikaya spread plus a container of fried maggi mee in slow boat to Maafushi.

Late lunch with hometown food (1 can of mackerel in tomato sauce, beef floss, egg and rice with special sambal hitam brought by Mrs FZ).

Day 2 lunch

Dinner served by hotel after night fishing. Grilled fish ( 4 large fish) with tomato salsa and white rice.

Day 2 dinner

Day 3

Breakfast at shadow palm - continental breakfast and juice.

Lunch provided during the snorkelling. 4 slices of tuna @ chicken sandwich, juice and fresh fruits.

Early dinner prepared from food brought from hometown (rice with mackerel in tomato sauce, hard-boiled egg with sambal, beef floss and sambal hitam).

Day 3 dinner

Day 4

Breakfast at shadow palm - continental breakfast and juice.

Lunch buffet at Adaaran Vadoo Prestige Resort during aadaran island excursion. They served variety of food selection (there were beef, chicken, fish, soup, macaroni, white rice, fried rice, salads, mix vegetables, mashed potatoes, cake, pudding, and fruit). Most of the food served were delicious except for dessert. I don't really know what they were called but it definitely looks like blueberry cake. It had weird smell, taste and texture, but their caramel pudding is yum!

Day 4 buffet lunch

Late dinner prepared from food brought from hometown. (rice, Brahim's instant dishes and beef floss). The best part was Mr Nasseer also shared his spicy Bangladeshi curry which we could not catch it's name.

Day 5

Breakfast at Shadow Palm - mashuni (tuna with grated coconut and chilli) with roshi (fresh baked chapati).

Day 5 breakfast

Lunch from Brahim's prepack ready meal (Nasi Arab Kambing) brought from hometown in H78 hotel.

Day 5 lunch. terribly sorry for the  blurry picture

Dinner maggi curry mee brought from hometown.

Day 6

Buffet breakfast in H78 hotel. They served quite variety of food (toasted bread with jam, pancake, omelette, mashuni with roshi, instant noodles, cereal, cake, yogurt drinks, milk, coffee and different  flavor of tea).

Day 6 buffet breakfast

Lunch at Asiana Cafe nearby for local cuisine. We tried their whole roasted chicken, green curry tuna, and mushroom black pepper beef. They were all pleasurable.

Day 6 maldivian lunch

Maldives : Tips

Our Traveling Tips.
1. No need to rush on buying souvenirs. There is a large section of souvenirs at the airport that offers same price (perhaps much cheaper) than the souvenirs' shop in the Maafushi or Male. There are plenty of choices of beautiful souvenirs as well. Make sure to bring along your passport and boarding pass to cashier upon paying the souvenirs.
2. Avoid seeking for restaurant for food. Maldivian may perceive the word "restaurant" as expensive, fine dining place to eat. If you are seeking for a low profile cheaper place to eat, just use the word "cafe". We did bring our food along, but I would recommend you to try some of the food there as well.
3. For activities in Maafushi, you are not necessarily bounded to take the activities provided by your hotel. You may ask and survey around for better price that may be offered by other hotel. The hotels were really close to one and another. And there price may depend on the number of the participants. The larger you traveling group, the cheaper it may become.
4. They use 3 pin power socket just same as we use in Malaysia. And each room was provided with extension for multiple appliances usage.
5. Upon researching, we thought that the mineral water may be expensive there. It is true if you are going to hotels or resorts in private Island. We learned that the price for mineral water in Maafushi and Hulhumale was nearly the same as the price in Malaysia.
6. Must bring items! - sunblock, sunglasses, hats/caps, and waterproof bag
7. Since Malaysian Ringgit is not changeable in Maldives, you may need to change our MYR to USD first before going to Maldives. There will be money changer at the airport to change to Maldivian Rufiyaa. The money changer is known as Bank of Maldives. However, we found out that the Rufiyaa was used mainly for transportation and dining, therefore no need to change all the USD into MVR. We only used 100USD to exchange into MVR which we used mainly for taxi, public transport and lunch at Asiana Cafe. Make sure to keep the receipt but it will be needed if you plan to change MVR back into USD later. There will be another money changer at the waiting area of departure hall at Maldives airport.
8. Please bring along your USb flash drive. It will be needed for pictures and videos during snorkeling. The organizer will be providing those at FOC. But if you forget to bring one, there will be shops nearby selling the flash drives at price of 200 rufiyaa for 8GB flash drive.

Maldives : our expenditure

Here is the crucial part. It is always crucial when it comes to money.

Since we use malaysian ringgit, my calculation will based on the cost of the trip in Malaysian ringgit. However, you can easily convert those using this conversion rate :

1 usd = 4.1 malaysia ringgit (MYR)

1 usd = 15 maldive rufiyaa (MVR)

Accomodation and flight :
Return flight to maldives and 2 rooms for 1 night at H78 hotel, Hulhumale bought from Expedia
4646.48 MYR

2 rooms for 1 night at Off day inn hotel, Male
524.06 MYR
2 rooms for 3 nights at Shadow Palm, Maafushi
1053.78 MYR
Total
6224.32 MYR
Transportation (please refer to Transportation for more detail) (4 person)
144.55 MYR
Expenses for accomodation and transportation only (4 person)
6368.87 MYR
Per person spent for only 1592.20 MYR for accomodation and transportation..

Activities (please refer to Activities for more detail) (4 person)
2907.52 MYR
Food and beverage (please refer to Food and Beverage for more detail) (4 person)
140.60 MYR

For the whole trip incluve of activities and the local cuisine we had in Asiana cafe in Hulhumale, we spent total of 9416.99 MYR for 4 person, which means each person spent 2354.20 MYR

Maldives : Accomodation

The review will be done according to rating system among the travellers that were included in the trips. Ratings was done according to 1 to 5 in which 1 is the lowest and 5 is the highest.

1. Off Day Inn (Male)

Description : This hotel was supposed to be the low budget hotel in Male. However, we believed that every accommodation in Male is pricey due to the heavily dense population. Male is the capital of Maldives which means that every tourist that comes to Maldives will either spend at least a night in Male or stay for transit in Male before going to other island. Off day Inn is located H. Hiriyaadhoo Filigus Higun opposite the Majeedhee Magu. We chose to stay in standard room here.
Room size : The room size was bit smaller than we thought. It was similar to 2 star accommodation in Malaysia.
Location : 3.0/5.0 Location was near to male-airport ferry terminal but very far away if you want to go to villingili ferry terminal. The hotel was situated across a football field, thus not very noisy as compared to other hotel.
Price : 2.5/5.0 The price that was offered in Agoda MYR524.06 for 2 rooms inclusive of environmental tax and government tax
Cleanliness: 3.5/5.0 The room and bathroom was fairly clean but the cupboard has a weird purging smell. Toilet : 3.5/5.0 The toilet was clean enough. But the toiletries was not provided sufficiently. They only provided shampoo and bath gel in refillable container.
Facilities : 2.0/5.0 Good thing is they provided a mini bar, television and bed. The bad thing is the bed was stony hard and there was no kettle, the mini bar was not functioning and the blanket was the thinnest we had ever have before.
Staff : 3.0/5.0 Friendly staff and accommodating. Despite of language barrier, they will help to provide the basic necessity you need.
Food : 3.0/5.0 *based on breakfast given The breakfast served to us was continental breakfast. Bread was kinda chewy. Otherwise the food was OK. It was a decent breakfast.
Will I ever return again? I'll give other hotel a try next time.

2. Shadow palm (Maafushi)

Description: I would personally say that this is the best stay I ever had. Despite of this accommodation only has 4 ground floor room, they did one hell of a job in accommodation business. They treat every guest like their family and i mean it literally. The staff was extremely friendly and hardworking. The manager was the owner's son and he speaks very good English. They provide decent water sport activities at reasonable price. I will personally recommend this accommodation if anyone asks me where to stay in Maafushi.

Shadow Palm layout plan. See, they only have 4 rooms

Room size: It was spacious. The size of the room is similar to our room at home which is approximately 150 square foot excluding the toilet/bathroom space.
Location: 4.5/5.0 The bikini beach is just behind the hotel literally less 20 steps away. The public beach would be around 5 minutes walking distance. The only downside was shadow palm is not directly facing the beach.
Price: 4.8/5.0 The price that was paid via Agoda was MYR 1053.78 for 2 room excluding 36USD (MYR 148.68) for environmental tax and government tax. We would expect less for the price given but yet it was the best stay we ever had. The room was spacious and given the location, i would pay more for this accommodation.
Cleanliness: 5.0/5.0 The room was well kept and cleaned. Most of the guest would wear sandals/shoe to their room and the staff will swept the floor from sand hourly. The bathroom was cleaned to the extent that you can lay down on the floor of the bathroom and take a nap.
Toilet: The toilet was pleasant and clean. Not only they have shower head but also regular tap for washing clothes and in our case, our food container each time we cooked. The bathroom was fully tiles.
Facilities: 4.0/5.0 The room was spacious and the furniture was taken care very well. There was a lot of room in the furniture. The make up cabinet was also big enough for a lady with a bag full of cosmetic products. However, they do not provide mini bar. They do provide hot water and basic equipment for ironing but it will be provided on inquiry basis.
Staff : 5.0/5.0 Staffs were all friendly. They loved sharing story and sometimes shared their food as well. You can just ask them anything if you want to know or to do and they will sincerely answer them. They can comprehend and speak English very well. As was explained in activities section, we were granted with free jet ski ride for choosing to stay there and the activities from the hotel provider. That was a lovely gesture.
Food : 5.0/5.0 Even though the most meal we had was breakfast and one dinner after back from night fishing. The breakfast was lovely. It was the continental breakfast you dream of, even if you went back to your hometown. And the traditional Maldivian breakfast of Mas Huni with Roshi (this will be explained in detail in food and beverage section), Mrs Azza is still going through the internet to seek its recipe. The baked fish we had after night fishing, all I can say that we ate to our heart content and our belly full that we slept soundly that night.
Will I ever return again? Of course!

3. H78 hotel (Hulhumale)

Description : This is the hotel we decided to spend our last night in Maldives. It was the most expensive stay we had during this trip. The room we chose was sea view room which faced the Hulhumale beach.
Room size : 3/5 The room size was adequate but similar to 3 star hotel in Malaysia. The good part was the room was facing to the beach, hence the name; sea view room. However, I would not say that we had only partial view of the beach. Mr FZ had full view on the beach despite of both room  were sea view. The furniture was well put and organized. They provided us with a queen size bed, make up mirror and a coffee maker. No fridge or mini bar provided. Lol. It was the first thing we did once we were done check in, made us a cup of espresso out of the coffee machine. It stated that they only provide the espresso machine to sea view and suite rooms.

Sea view from our room balcony 102

Location : 3/5 It was located at the far end of the beach about 20 minutes walking distance to the center of Hulhumale and Hulhumale Hospital. The airport was 10 minutes drive from here. There was nearby groceries shop and a cafe named Asiana Cafe just 1 block away from the hotel.
Price: 2.5/5 I would say the price was kinda expensive for the hotel room. I believed this may be due to its location to the beach.
Cleanliness: 4/5.They kept the cleanliness well. No much issue on this part.
Toilet: Toilet was clean but the bath gel was provided in refillable container. However, I had issue with the shower and drain hole. The hotel seemed as if they did not have enough water pressure to supply to each room. We could not get the overhead shower to function well, and we were at the first floor. The drain hole was also not working so well.  We had to wait while bathing for the water to drain sufficiently so that it wont spill to the other part of the bathroom.
Facilities: They have cafeteria downstairs for breakfast. I have already explained regarding some of the features in the room.
Staff: Most of the staffs were Filipino's and they were super friendly. Their English was very good. Thumbs up!
Food: Their breakfast was OK, I think. They had buffet breakfast and many good selection of foods. We loved their yogurt in glass. We tried Mashuni there, although we prefer the one prepared in Shadow Palm more.
Will I return? If I am looking to spend more time in Maldives, I would definitely spend it on other island. But I would say that Hulhumale Beach is the less attractive beach in Maldives. I would not recommend to take any accommodation near the beach. By the way, the Island was not that big. Everything was in walking distance. I would try another hotel if I ever come to Hulhumale again.
